In short

Element. The mature, decentralised option: pick any homeserver (or run Synapse yourself), E2EE is on by default for private rooms and DMs but off for public rooms, and threads, power-level roles, bots, chat export and Element Call screen sharing all exist. Expect a Slack-like rather than Discord-like UX (Spaces instead of servers, no custom emoji), a learning curve around device verification and key backup, and no Discord importer (only bridges such as matrix-appservice-discord). Element the company monetises hosting and enterprise, so the consumer apps stay free.

Fluxer. Feature-wise the most complete Discord clone here: threads and forums, roles, bots/HTTP+gateway API, custom emoji and stickers, 16 voice regions, plus a built-in per-user data export (Settings > Privacy Dashboard). Over 500k accounts by Oct 2026 but iOS is still 'coming early November 2026' and Android is a Play Store beta. Discord import is structure-only via a Discord server template (channels/roles; no messages or members) and has had reliability complaints; E2EE and federation are only on the 2026-2027 roadmap.

I build Probed, one of the destinations here. It gets the same facts as the rest.
